Cafe Homestead Fails Food Inspection

( Source)

Diners at Cafe Homestead may be ingesting something a little extra with their food. KWTX reports that their recent inspection cites violations such as preparing ready-to-eat foods with ungloved hands, and an issue with flies on food prep surfaces.

And this time there actually was slime in the ice machine

Not only were employees handling ready-to-eat foods without gloves, they were also docked points for not having "adequate handwashing facilities" which lacked soap(!) and paper towels. Several employees did not have required food handler certificates. There's really no telling what kind of food contamination was served up from unwashed and ungloved hands. You might think such sanitary measures would be common sense even without taking the food handler course. You would be wrong.

A chemical spray bottle was sitting next to food. Every now and then a story makes headlines, such as students that were served floor sealant instead of milk. These accidents are preventable with proper precautions, which are not readily observable at Cafe Homestead.

This isn't the first time a Homestead establishment failed its food inspection. It looks like Homestead Bakery also failed in October 2021. Caveat emptor.
